Inverness Founders Day Centennial Celebration

This festival will convert modern Courthouse Square into an early 1900s old Florida town.

Inverness Founders’ Day is set for Saturday, September 14, 2019 to commemorate 100 years as a city. This festival will convert modern Courthouse Square into an early 1900s old Florida town. The highlights of the event include live Florida heritage music by 7 Lbs of Bacon Mess Band. The opening ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Valerie Theatre, and don’t miss the reenactment of the “stealing” of the county seat featuring a horse and wagon relocating the county clerk from the village of Mannfield to Inverness is set for 10:30 a.m. 

The Old Courthouse lawn will into turn into a Florida Cracker Cowboy Campsite. Bring your appetite there will be old fashioned barbecue, pies, homemade sodas and more. 

At 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. enjoy the living history presentation called, “A Day in the Life of Inverness” in the Old Courthouse. A narrator will tell the stories of the City’s townspeople with a cast of 20 characters from the to include the publisher of the Citrus County Chronicle to historical characters from Inverness’ earliest days.

The Valerie Theatre will debut the “Inverness Recollections” video collection featuring city elders and longtime Inverness families sharing their stories of growing up in Inverness. This film will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum welcomes all to visit the touring exhibit, “Inverness Through the Ages” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

This event is free and open to the public.
