The Taste Announces 2019 Winners

Golden Ticket  winners Grand Living

INVERNESS, Fla – The City of Inverness announces the winners from the Taste held April 13, 2019.  The Taste is a one-day music, beverage and art festival that is also a qualifier for the World Food Championship (WFC). WFC is the largest international food competition, with celebrity chefs and prizes estimated at $350,000 at the Dallas competition this fall.

The City announces the Bacon/Golden Ticket Winner is Grand Living, with a score of 75.5 out of 90. This was the only WFC Golden Ticket at the Taste. The winning dish: “Bacon Wrapped Citrus Glazed Sea Scallops” was prepared on-site by Chef Remco Van Asdonk. Asdonk has bragging rights and will take home a waived entry into the 2019 WFC.

“We are expecting more than 500 competitive teams this year at our Main Event, a makeup of chefs, home cooks and pro teams from around the globe,” said Mike McCloud, the CEO and President of WFC. At the five-day WFC, international cooking tournament, WFC competitors will prepare food on-site in timed events that include preparation, speed, signature recipes and presentation.

Competition categories judged at the Taste: Sandwich, Burger, Chicken, Steak, Dessert and Chef. Below is a list winner. The highest score for any entry is 90 points.

  • Chef Winner: Oscar Penn’s of Inverness served Surf & Turf Rack of Lamb, score 72.5
  • Chicken Winner: OMG Pretzel Bites of Citrus County served a Chicken Bacon Ranch Pretzel, score 72
  • Sandwich First Place: Oscar Penn’s of Inverness served a Blackened BLT, score 83
  • Barbecue First Place: Cattledog Coffee Roasters of Inverness served a Barbecue Coffee Brisket, score 74
  • Seafood First Place: World Fusion of Lecanto served a Spicy Tuna Roll with Sauce, score 78
  • Steak: Oscar Penn’s of Inverness served a Filet, score 82
  • Dessert: Hippie Chick Cheesecake of Citrus County served a Strawberry Balsamic Fig Almond Cheescake Bite, score 80

The Taste also invites the Citrus County Supervisor of Elections Office to conduct a popular vote from attendees for the favorite restaurant and artist at the event. The public voted for World Fusion of Lecanto as top restaurant and Gary Kuhl of Floral City as top artist. The City thanks all the chefs for participating in this event.
